Am I A Feminist?

Hello sweet peas πŸ™‚

This is possibly the most controversial post I have ever written haha πŸ˜€ Although to be honest there shouldn’t be anything controversial about it πŸ™‚ However, please do respect my opinion, and accept that this is absolutely just my opinion πŸ™‚ Also, this post is inspired by an amazing post that Aqsa wrote, and I highly encourage you to go and read that because it is quite simply amazing, and imperative for everyone everywhere who has any respect for women to read πŸ™‚ ❀

So, feminism. I think I should just jump in with both feet first πŸ™‚ I am a Feminist. Most of the time when I say this people are pretty cool with that, and call themselves a feminist too, generally for the right reasons. And then other times they go “really?!”. Which makes me a little sad, whether they are a female or a male, which is kind of my point. I think one problem is that the definition of what a feminist actually is has been a little muddled, and of course there are always people who are hard against or for it, and twist the reasons for something.

So what is a feminist?

  • Someone, female or male,Β who believes both genders should have equal opportunities and rights, and that there shouldn’t be any hate to either gender. It is quite simply that.

Just like with racism (which I am totally against, but that’s another can of worms lol) there can be reverse sexism. And unfortunately this is what a lot of people associate with feminism and feminists. Some people I have discussed feminism with have thought it is woman who hate on men, but oh my gosh it is not! That is exactly what feminists are trying to prevent.

So, as a feminist I am very grateful to live in a country where I can vote just like a man, work just like a man, and do sport, dress how I like, go to school, and get married whenΒ and if Β I want, to who I want. Unfortunately there are still issues like men getting paid more, or the sexism in terms of double standards for both genders, but I’m not going to just hate on men because of this. These are things that I am going to fight to get rid of so that one day my children won’t have to live with such blatant hating in a society. I am so proud of my country for being the first country in the world, and the only country in the nineteenth century, to grant universal suffrage, for anyone of any ethnicity, over 21 to vote in New Zealand. It took a while before most of our close countries did the same, and I know a lot of places in the world still don’t have this.

I really hope I have educated you a bit more about feminism, and showed you what it actually is πŸ™‚ I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic, but as I said at the beginning please do not go hating on me for being a feminist. Hating never got anyone anywhere. However, loving did.

Until next time

Lui xx

  1. This post was so good! (I kind of feel like repeting myself a lot but I mean it!) In my family, I am called the feminist of the household and I am definitely proud of being one! I remember once in school (I think it was in fith grade) I had this history teacher who was babbling on something to do with the Romans (you can see hoe passionate I am about historyπŸ˜†) and then he said ‘[..] and this part, I think Rosie will like. Won’t you Rosie, you as a femisist?’ I rememeber being really confused because I had no idea what a feminist was. So I came home that day asking my mum what a feminist was after explaining the whole story to her. And ever since that day I truly consider myself a feminist!πŸ˜‰ (I always stood up for women’s rights but I never knew there was a name to it) xxx

  3. Well said! I’m not saying that every girl has to be a feminist, but when they say they aren’t, are they not just saying they don’t want to be equal? That they want to be disregarded or be lower in society than men? Loved the post xx also, do you agree with the voting age being brought down? I think it’s great that young people can have a say in who this country is run by.

    1. thank you!!! and yes I completely agree!! πŸ™‚ that’s what I always wonder, and I really hope no women would ever think that they are lesser!!
and I hadn’t heard about that!! but omg yes that’d be great haha πŸ˜€ especially since that probably would’ve aided a certain country during a certain election lol πŸ˜‰ ❀ xx

  4. Thank you for sharing this post! A lot of people are quick to assume that feminism automatically means man-hating, when at its core, feminism is about equality of all genders.
